The Power of Behaviour Analytics to inform Experimentation

Last week we hosted a hands-on ideation workshop at Sussex County Cricket Club for in-house practitioners working directly across experimentation, UX and analytics.

Alongside partners, Contentsquare and Webtrends Optimize we explored how powerful behavioural analytics can inform experimentation and improve customer experiences.

Based on real customer insights provided by Travel Republic, the UK’s leading online travel agent, the five teams started defining problems for mobile users before crazy-eight-ing potential solutions, an ideation technique used by Creative CX’s UX research team to generate a number of different ideas within a short period of time.

With the clock ticking, the teams then put their art and craft skills to the test, cutting and sticking together two prototype solutions on paper which is always refreshing and embraces a more low-fidelity, tactile type method for ideation – getting away from the screen.

Finally, the teams presented their ideas to the room and a judging team comprised Chris Gibbins (Chief Experience Officer at Creative CX), Sandeep Shah (Director of Product at Webtrends Optimize) and James Fearne (Lead Customer Success Manager at Contentsquare) provided feedback on the solutions before awarding Champagne to the winning team.

Chris Gibbins, facilitated the workshop and said, “Having a county cricket match in the background was a little unusual but actually a nice change from the normal hotel or conference room venue. Maybe it was this calmness of cricket that led to such creativity across the five tables of participants”.

Top 3 takeaways from the workshop:

  1. Don’t underestimate client-side testing for speed and agility – as demonstrated by Sandeep Shah when he built one of the winning test ideas in just a matter of minutes!
  2. Some of the best test ideas are conceptualised when we put away our mobiles and laptops
  3. Evidence-based behavioural insights are key to unlocking optimisation opportunities and improving user journeys
